trouble!
when you're near I don't know how to act
it's hard enough to just collect my thoughts
and listen when you call me
so strange
I never seem to tell the rhyme or reason
it happens at the end of every season
oh the sky is turning grey
it's such a strange coincidence
it goes against all common sense
I wish I knew the end of it
but I'm not ready
stepping out of time and drawing circles in the sky
there's something we're missing
what if we never met
we never fell apart
I should have known it from the very start
you're trouble
leading me astray
I can't stand anybody else
it's no fun hanging by myself
and if I get the chance to leave the room
I'll take it!
I may not be the smartest or the brightest of the boys
but don't you think I've earned a good run?
The name of this album perfectly encapsulates everything I love about Elizabeth's musical output from the Darlings to Allo Darlin' to these precious songs: an unyielding optimism that is never naive, and by being so, becomes wildly contagious. Some music tells you that "everything will be ok", but her music actually makes you believe it, even when the lyrics hint at doubt. Michael Feck
